Gleanings From God’s Altar 1

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. (Prov. 4:23)

How do you want the course of your life to be? The answer to this question is determined by the state of your heart. The heart is an essential part of our being and without it functioning properly, the course of our life will either be hampered or terminated. No wonder we are called upon this day to guard it above all else. It should be guarded above our possessions or endowments. It is what we have to do, no wonder it came as a charge. It is not optional it is a responsibility for us to do.

The Psalmist in Psalm 51:10 understood this matter and asked that the Lord to create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. The exhortation in Philippians 4:8 should always be in our hearts and it reads thus: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.”
