On The Street

On The Street

“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?…”
Romans 10:14
As the main thrust of our ministry is to reach non-Christians and non-church going members of our communities, what better way to meet them than on the street while they are going about their “business”.

Every Saturday, we go out on the street to tell people about our Lord and Saviour – Jesus Christ. We share gospel tracts and witness to people by engaging them in conversations about Jesus Christ. As we speak and engage with people on the street, we see a lack of knowledge and understanding about God – Jesus Christ. Many people don’t want to stop to hear our message, while some say things like “I’m alright”, “No thanks”, “Not for me, thanks” etc. We see people who have turned their backs on God by rejecting the message of the Gospel of Salvation.

In many instances, we sow the seeds of God’s word in the hearts of those who stop and listen to us, other times we water seeds that have already been sown; and other times God gives the increase when a person accepts and confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?…”
Romans 10:14

Recently, while on street evangelism, I met a young person and asked what he knew about Jesus Christ. He replied, not much and made a few guesses. When asked what was the latest iPhone in the market, he quickly gave the correct answer with a bit more information. I then asked him how come he knew so much about iPhones and not much about Jesus Christ, without thinking, he immediately replied and said advertisement! When I asked him to explain, he said that the iPhone is a brand, which is advertised everywhere through different forms of media. On the other hand, you really don’t hear or see much about Jesus Christ for people to know more about Him.

That really got me thinking and I said to him, you’ve really taught me something new today. On my way home, I began thinking about what he said and realized that though Churches or Christians may not have the financial means or approval of using secular media to advertise and promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ; every Christian (Born Again) is God’s advertisement media to the world.
